An evening in Spain is a fundraising event for Timeless Concerts, held at the home of Delores & Richard Pell.

Having received a standing ovation by our audience the last time we played music by Joaquin Turina, we knew that this composer we love, was loved by all; his music returns! Turina was born in Seville, Spain in 1882. He employed local Spanish colors and folk music in his most successful musical pieces. Having also studied in France, he adopted conventional European forms of the Impressionist Era, making his music even more imposing. Also to be performed on this concert are the works of composers Pablo de Sarasate of Pamplona, Spain (1884-1905) and Isaac Albeniz.

This concert's musicians are violinist LeeAnne Chenoweth, cellist Karen Maddox Smith, pianist David Dubiel, violist Yvonne Ciminiello. POST-CONCERT pianist Steve Stroud.

The Fort Worth Art Dealer’s Association (FWADA) is hosting their Fall Gallery Night so that everyone can view the visual arts and our community’s unique cultural richness. This year's Fall Gallery Night is Saturday, September 7. Most participants are open from noon to 9 pm. Take a stroll through participating galleries, museums, retail businesses, and area restaurants, and enjoy the many artists featured during this community event. Gallery Night is free and open to the public.

Participating venues in the Arlington area include The Arlington Museum of Art, Sparks Studio, The Upstairs Gallery, and The Gallery at UTA. You can download the Fall Gallery Night brochure and map from the FWADA website or pick them up at many of the participating institutions.

The Arlington Museum of Art presents Women of Baseball, a retrospective of women's participation in America's past time. The creation of an all-girls team at Vassar College in 1866 introduced women to the sport that had been solely enjoyed by men. In addition to the establishment of an all-female league during the WWII era, the 20th Century saw a significant number of women playing professionally alongside men in the male dominated sport.

The Women of Baseball exhibit begins with a member's reception from 7-9 pm, Friday September 6, 2013 and will run through October 20, 2013. More information on the exhibit and other events (such as lectures) will soon be available on the Arlington Museum of Art's website. The Arlington Museum of Art has hosted several events in conjunction with its Harlem Renaissance Exhibit. It will host its final one, a Night at the Apollo, a week before this exhibit closes. In line with the actual Apollo Theater, the AMA will be hosting its own Amateur Night, featuring amateur acts from North Texas. And as with the original, audience participation decides the winner.

Cash prizes will be given to the winners. Tickets to this event will include admission to come back and see the Harlem Renaissance Exhibit before it closes on August 25. In conjunction with their current show, the Harlem Renaissance, featuring a William H. Johnson: An American Modern exhibit, the Arlington Museum of Art is continuing their celebration of the Harlem Renaissance with a Poetry and Jazz Fest. It will be held in their basement amphitheater and is free with purchase of admission on Saturday, July 6th, 2013, 10:00am - 5:00pm.

This all day event will celebrate the poets and musicians of the Harlem Renaissance and show the influence they have had on contemporary artists. Local DFW poets will read selected works from Harlem Renaissance greats such as Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen, as well as from their own original works.

The Arlington Museum of Art's annual gala fundraiser this year is being presented in conjunction with their current exhibits, Harlem Renaissance and William H. Johnson: An American Modern, this Friday, June 14, 2013 from 6:30 pm - 11:00 pm. The gala, "A Night at the Cotton Club", will transport attendees back to this historic club that was the birthplace for jazz music, soulful singers and the big band sound during the 20s and 30s. Many famous musicians and performers including Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Cab Callaway made a name for themselves appearing at the club and their legacies to cultural history will be honored with live performances throughout the evening.

Dinner will be served and a cocktail bar provided, so come and spend the evening. Make your reservations now.

Italian music from several eras, presented by Timeless Concerts, will make an exciting concert for everyone. They will begin their concert with a composer you may have never heard of: Wolf-Ferrari. In addition, the concert will include the exciting instrumental music of Vivaldi (known for his “Four Seasons”), and the opera arias of Puccini.

The hour-long concert on Saturday, June 22 will be followed by a party with more live music, when requests and dancing are welcome. Table seating is available for 2 or up to 8. Doors open at 7:30 and the concert begins at 8:00 pm. A complimentary wine bar (or BYOB), soft drinks, fruit/cheese/dessert buffet, tax and gratuity are all included in ticket price. The Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit, William H. Johnson: An American Modern, features rare paintings by William H. Johnson, from the collection of the James E. Lewis Museum at Morgan State University and is a cornerstone of the Arlington Museum of Art’s Harlem Renaissance exhibit. An essential figure in modern American art, William H. Johnson (1901-1970) was a preeminent African-American artist and virtuoso skilled in various media and techniques, and produced thousands of works over a career that spanned decades, continents and genres.

You will be able to view this exhibit from June 1st through August 25th. A preview of the exhibition and opening reception for exhibit sponsors and museum members will be held on May 31, 2013 from 6 – 9 pm.

Works by additional important African-American artists will be included in the Harlem Renaissance exhibit. AMA is planning a number of programs in tandem with this exhibit that will enhance the visitors' experience including lectures, musical performances and poetry slams. April brings a new exhibition to the Arlington Museum of Art's Rooftop Gallery from a fabulous group of Arlington photographers. Chicks Who Click is a women's photography group started a year ago on Facebook. They are a diverse group of women of all ages, backgrounds and photographic skill level.

The show will last through September 30th and will feature photographs from many of their members. There will be different women showing each month, so images will change throughout the exhibit, some will be for sale.

From April 12 to May 26, 2013, the Arlington Museum of Art's Spanish Colonial exhibit examines over 300 years of traditional Spanish art, including retablos, ex votos, santos, alters and more. This artwork was created by Spanish friars and missionaries who needed a new way of recreating art brought over by Spanish Conquistadors. Their new art adorned Spanish missions in Central America and southern United States, such as the New Mexico area. Spanish Colonial Art focused mainly on religious figures and practices to show the importance of religion in the daily lives of the colonists.

An opening reception for museum members and exhibit sponsors begins at 6 pm on April 12.

Included in this concert will be the popular French song, “April in Paris”, since this concert is of the same title! David Robinson will sing several French songs of his choosing as well. The featured composer will be Charles-Camille Saint Saens, born in Paris, France. Timeless Concerts' musicians, pianist, Heejung Kang; violinist LeeAnne Chenoweth and cellist, Oliver Schlaffer will perform the second of his two piano trios (for violin, cello and piano). He composed this wonderful piece while vacationing on the coast of Algeria. In the busy piano part of the opening movement, one can hear the rise and fall of the waves of the ocean St. Saens enjoyed so much. The four movements of his trio are each very different, beautiful, and interesting.

Thursday, March 14, 2013, Johnny D and the Doowopps will be playing from 7:00 PM - 8: 00 PM in Roanoke to kick off their "Evenings On Oak Street" concert series.

"Evenings On Oak Street" is a free concert series located at Austin Street Plaza in historic downtown Roanoke from March through October. The beautiful plaza area includes a covered stage, landscaped green space, picnic area, restrooms and parking area. Concerts are second and fourth Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., except as noted during Unique Week and Celebrate ROANOKE!

Art on the Greene is a free 3 day arts festival located near The Rangers Ballpark and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. This is the second year for this annual event. It got rave reviews for its inaugural year and should be awesome this year too.

Art On The Greene will be held in Richard Greene Linear Park on March 22-24 and will feature the finest artists and prominent local live entertainment. You will find a list of participating artists on the event's website.

Examples of works of two local artists that will be showing their creations are seen in this post. Brad Foster of Jabberwocky Graphix creates incredibly detailed pen and ink drawings of a variety of subject matter. Dee of Frontier Studios makes the most amazing gourd and pine needle bowls and sculptures along with pine cone duck decoys. Stop by and say hi to these local area artists and many more when you visit. Great musical entertainment as well as food and drink round out this festival.

Just in time for Mardi Gras, the Arlington Museum of Art's Second Saturday Workshop will focus on mask making. Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 9 from 9 am - noon or 1 pm - 4 pm. Instructor Catherine Snow will guide participants in making a mask using plaster gauze over different mask form types. Various techniques will be shown so participants can individualize their creations. Once dried, decorations will be applied to the masks. If you are interested in getting a chance to do something creative, sign up on the AMA's website. Classes are $20, or $18 if you're a member.

The Valentine Special by Timeless Concerts is their most popular event. Treat your sweetheart to a romantic evening out on Saturday, February 16, starting at 8:00 pm at the Arlington Museum of Art.

As usual, Timeless Concerts will celebrate the most romantic instrumental music and songs of all times from a variety of countries. Enjoy the spicy tangos of Argentina’s Piazzolla, chamber music of Spain and France, along with the most beloved songs of American musicals sung by baritone David Robinson. Their concert instrumentalists are pianist Heejung Kang, violinist LeeAnne Chenoweth, and cellist Eric Forman. After the hour long concert, party with pianist Steve Stroud who will be joined by bass and light drums for dancing. Requests may be submitted at this time.

Table seating is available for 2 or up to 8. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the concert. A fruit, cheese and dessert buffet including beverages (complimentary wine bar/soft drinks or you may BYOB), tax and gratuity are all included in the ticket price. "Wait", you say, "What does a meteorite gallery have to do with promoting the Arts?"

Blame it on the science geek in me, but after discovering this gem of a gallery at TCU I had to expand the mission of this site to promote the Sciences available to the public in and around the 817 area code as well. I have added the Monnig Meteorite Gallery to the "Galleries, Studios & Exhibitions" tab. I have set up a separate heading for science galleries on this page and will do the same to the "Museums" tab as I receive submissions.

As for this meteorite gallery, I definitely recommend it. The specimens are beautifully displayed. I was informed by the curator that the designer of this gallery had also worked at the Smithsonian. The design does a great job of creatively using the limited space in such a way that you never feel cramped but rather feel that the gallery is much more expansive than it is. Easy to read informative text accompanies the specimens and photographs. There are also interactive exhibits and a small video viewing area. You can easily spend an hour perusing this delightful collection of displays and exhibits.

Plan your visit to the Monnig Meteorite Gallery Monday through Friday from 1 pm - 4 pm or Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm except on University holidays. Admission is free.
